The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Many people are frightened of the future and what it will bring. We live in a time of wars, rumors of wars, dangerous viruses, political upheaval, and other concerns. These concerns drain us emotionally. We desire stability and not chaos in our daily lives. Unfortunately, that is not always possible.

In this sinful world, we can only have true peace through Jesus. John 16:33I (Jesus) have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. [1] We are filled with peace as we look to Jesus, not the world.

Encountering Fear

Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem for the last time. Those around Him feared the threat of the Pharisees. Jerusalem was a dangerous place for Jesus, and they may have wondered why Jesus was so determined to go there. Mark 10: 32 They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear. Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him. [2]

Most people, including the disciples, anticipated that the Messiah would redeem them from Rome, not their sins. They wanted a political ruler. Jesus let His disciples know that He would be mocked, whipped, put to death, and rise three days later. Still, the disciples were confused and did not understand God’s plan. In our lives, we can have times when the circumstances overwhelm us. As a result, we don’t grasp the bigger picture of God’s intervention.

Overcoming Fear

Throughout Scripture, God tells us not to fear. We have no reason to fear anything in our world with Jesus by our side. In life, we will face uncertainty, but Jesus promises to walk through these times with us. Our circumstances may not change, but we can count on Jesus to give us the courage and strength to move forward. Fear is the opposite of faith. God wants us to walk by faith, but our enemy satan wants us to walk by fear. We can live a fulfilled and peaceful life by learning to live by faith and not let fear rule over us.

Paul gives us insight into overcoming fear. Philippians 4:Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then, you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. [3]
