Can daily living be worship? So often, modern Christians categorize worship as happening in a church building on Sunday morning. Each Christian tradition has what they call an order of worship. It may include a particular song style, Scripture reading, a teaching time, and prayers. While this gathering together to worship is essential, it is not the only way to worship God.
How to Worship Everyday
The Hebrew word translated as worship has the connotation of bowing in acknowledgment of the greatness of God.[1] Micah tells his listeners about three-part worship:
- Walk humbly with our God – Walking with someone denotes a type of relationship. Adam and Eve walked with God until the fall. Then sin destroyed that relationship. Jesus came as a baby to restore our broken relationship with God. If we are in a relationship with God, we communicate by reading Scripture, praying our requests, and listening to God’s response. We are ready to submit to where Jesus walks if we are humble. If we desire to please Him, we must lay aside our will to do His will. Following the way of God is an act of worship.
Worship Outside a Church Building
Obviously, the three-part worship Micah speaks of is done primarily outside of the church as we go about our everyday lives. Our actions can glorify God and cause others to ask why we do what we do. This can open a door for conversation about who God is. If we cannot live out doing what is right, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God, the ritual of a formal church service will have little significance. If daily worship is a new concept to you, pray for discernment. God will show you ways to walk out your faith with integrity.
