The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Following God by faith has been a challenge for believers throughout history. Noah had to trust the Lord and build an ark to save his family years before the Lord sent a flood. During Noah’s days, the Lord God watered the vegetation in a different way that did not require rain. Think of all the people who taunted Noah as he stepped out in faith to build this gigantic boat.

Abraham had to trust the Lord when He asked him to sacrifice his son Isaac. Before sacrificing his son, the Lord stopped him because Abraham had passed the test. God gave him a ram to sacrifice instead. Neither Noah nor Abraham knew what was ahead but had to place their faith in the Lord even when they did not understand. Stepping forward in faith is not figuring everything out but being faithfully obedient.

The Israelites Followed the Lord by Faith

As the Israelites entered the promised land, they would have to conquer the city of Jericho, protected by stone walls. Then the Lord gave Joshua a unique battle plan recorded in the Bible to overcome Jericho. This plan tested their faith.

Joshua 6:You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day, you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the city.” [1]

Joshua followed the Lord’s instructions without question and with absolute faithfulness. By doing so, we are given a unique glimpse into the heart of Joshua.

You, too, Can Follow the Lord by Faith

As we look at faithful people of the Bible, they were just ordinary people who trusted the Lord. If you follow Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit who helps you overcome your doubts to move forward in faith. Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.[2]

When we have the Holy Spirit, the Lord helps us overcome our unbelief as we pray and turn the situation over to Him. The Lord may be calling you to step out in faith to do something that seems impossible in the natural. As we move forward into what seems impossible, the Lord receives the credit because we know that only He made it possible.
