The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Overcoming barriers in life is easier with God’s help. When God helps us overcome, He shows He loves and cares for us. When our oldest daughter started junior high, the school was such a poor environment she began to cause problems at home. We were frustrated because we were unsure what to do.

We prayed because we couldn’t overcome this barrier on our own. Although neither my wife nor I are trained teachers, we enrolled her in a Christian Home school program. Our daughter dramatically improved through the school year with tears and hard work as we all worked together.

Wouldn’t it be nice if life were easier and there were fewer obstacles? But life does not unfold that way. Each day along our journey, there can be at least one obstacle.

The Israelites Faced a Significant Obstacle

As the Israelites entered the promised land, the walled city of Jericho was a significant obstacle for them to overcome. The Lord then communicated a unique battle plan to Joshua. Joshua 6:You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day, you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.” [1]

As you reflect on these verses, it took the Lord’s divine intervention for the Israelites to overcome the city of Jericho. Throughout the Bible, God’s intervention is often required for people to overcome the obstacles in their life. When we depend on ourselves to overcome the barriers, we often find ourselves stuck and unable to move forward. Sometimes it takes humility to realize only the Lord has the answers to our situation.

You Can Overcome Barriers in Life

As we face obstacles in life, they may surprise us, but they never surprise the Lord. He is always aware of our problems and has the answers to our questions as we take time to seek His face. There is no problem too great or a barrier too high that the Lord can’t help us work through. The Lord may use obstacles to slow us down, get our attention, or keep us from going where we don’t need to.

As we seek the Lord, an obstacle may be a blessing in disguise. Isaiah 41:13 For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you. [2] To learn about overcoming barriers in life, listen here:
