The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Learning from Jesus is transforming as we put His word into practice. Take a moment and think about how the Lord’s word has affected you. Perhaps you didn’t even realize it was changing you.

I remember doing a weekly Bible with one of my friends and those he employed in his small business. We would gather for breakfast each Monday at 6:00 am and spend time in the word. Month after month, his employees came but had little to say. In addition, they were unchurched, so we all wondered if the food was the only reason they came.

Then something miraculous began to happen. His employees stopped swearing on their own without any suggestion from my friend. While I didn’t think anything was happening in their hearts, the Lord cleaned up their vocabulary. Wow! That was transformation and the power of learning from Jesus.

Jesus Taught the Crowds

Jesus knew for people to change, they needed teaching, and we are the same today. Before Jesus called Peter into ministry, He asked to use his boat. Luke 5:Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. [1] The Gospels record Jesus teaching the people because He knew the importance of telling people about God’s Kingdom.

Jesus had a message for the religious leaders. John 8:12 I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness because you will have the light that leads to life.  [2] It is one thing to hear the word, and it is another to put it into practice.

Jesus, through His teaching, tells us we don’t have to walk in spiritual darkness. When we follow God’s word, He leads us to purpose, fulfillment, and eternal life. The Lord wants us to realize that we are in a spiritual battle, and the enemy and our sinful nature always lead us away from Him. John 10:10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My (Jesus’) purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.[3]

Jesus is Always Teaching

Today we are blessed with many ways of learning and growing in God’s word. Taking a verse or a small amount of Scripture and meditating allows the Lord to speak to us. We may live in a microwave culture, but the Lord marinades. Meditating on God’s word often gives us new insight and understanding that we did not have before and refreshes us simultaneously.

Psalm 25:Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long, I put my hope in you. [4]
