Our faith walk is a journey where the Lord sustains us like a shepherd with a sheep. Jesus travels with us along our journey, guiding and calling us back when we have gotten off the trail. It wasn’t until I became older in the faith that I realized the Lord was directing my path, and maybe this has been your experience also. I am thankful the Lord does not wait until we understand what He is doing before He intervenes in our lives.
When I first began to learn about Jesus, I was a toddler listening to my mother read me Bible stories. Other people may have started their journey with the Lord as teenagers or adults when Jesus called them to come and follow Him. Our faith journey is an essential part of our life because it gives us purpose as He unfolds His plan for our lives, including eternal life. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. [1]
Peter’s Faith Journey
Peter was a believer when he met Jesus, but Jesus had more. Luke 5:10 Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. [2] Peter knew what it was like to be a fisherman, but now Jesus called him to catch people for God’s Kingdom.
Along the journey of faith, we walk with just a lamp as the Lord guides our path, so we are not overwhelmed by what is ahead. Also, as we walk with the lamp, we must constantly communicate with the Lord as He guides us. 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by believing and not by seeing.[3]
We can become tired, discouraged, and confused along our faith journey. In these times, we become more aware of how much the Lord intervenes in our lives. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, I don’t believe Peter knew what path he should be on, but as he struggled, Jesus came to him. Jesus came to Peter to restore him, and when we are restored, it always sets us on the right path.
Your Faith Journey
Where is the Lord leading you? Do you need to be encouraged? Has the enemy tried to derail your faith walk? The continued faith journey of a believer is not easy. The Lord calls us to encourage and forgive one another because He knows the journey is difficult.
I believe all journeys are easier when we go with someone. Jesus sent out the disciples in pairs. Paul went with Barnabas on the first missionary journey, and we also need the help of other believers around us. Best of all, Jesus travels with us on our journey!
Matthew 11:28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” [4] To learn how our faith walk is a journey, listen here:
