Throughout history, people have asked, “Who is God?” Have you ever daydreamed about seeing God or perhaps touching Him? One of the ways people have gotten to know the Lord is through reading or listening to the Bible. As a young adult, I remember listening to the New Testament in audio form, and it greatly impacted my spiritual development. Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.[1]
When we spend time in God’s word, He can lead us to faith and strengthen believers’ faith. We discover His great love for us as we get to know the Lord. 1 John 4:9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. [2] Meditating on this verse fills you with awe of what Jesus did to save sinners.
Paul Described God
Paul was in Athens, Greece, where he encountered a shine to an Unknown God. Guided by the Holy Spirit, Paul used this opportunity to tell the people about God. Acts 17:24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need.[3]
Imagine that you are hearing Paul describe who God is. As you listen, the Holy Spirit is also working in your heart so you can receive what Paul is telling you. You discover God is the creator, the provider of everything, including our very life. Acts 17:27 “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and exist.[4] Paul helped those searching for the true God to come to faith.
As We Seek the Lord, He reveals His Plan and Purpose for Our Lives
Placing our faith in Jesus is our first step in the Lord’s transformation of our lives. As we seek the Lord through prayer and His word, He reveals His plan and purpose for our lives. As believers, we want to do our will but discover true happiness in life is doing the will of God. For the will of God always leads us to the very purpose and plan the Lord has for us.
