How do we act when God’s plan intersects our lives? As you read this, you may not be aware that God has a plan for your life. I did not realize God had a plan for my life until I became more mature in faith. Psalm 139:16You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”[1] Before you were even born, the Lord had a detailed plan for your life. God has placed you on this earth for a specific purpose in His divine will.
God had a plan for Mary, the mother of Jesus, and He also has a significant plan for you, as Paul tells us. Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. [2]
God’s Plan for Mary Intersected Her Life
Mary was leading an ordinary life as a regular person of faith. Until the angel Gabriel visited her, she had no idea part of God’s plan for her life was to give birth to the Son of God.
Luke 1:26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High.[3] When the Angel came to Mary, God’s plan intersected her life, and her life would never be the same.
When God’s Plan Intersects Your Life
Have you had the Holy Spirit nudge you to do something, not do something, or to convict you of sin? This is all part of God’s plan intersecting your life. You may be contemplating a decision in your life and are praying for God’s guidance and wisdom. You may be going along in life, and suddenly, the Lord closes a door that causes you to rearrange your life.
If we look back at our lives, we will see the hand of God everywhere. Why? Your plan changes so that it intersects with God’s plan. I believe the Lord continually redirects our lives so we get on the right path, and if we get off, He helps us get back on.
