How can we be highly favored by the Lord? Does the Lord favor me, or is that just a few people you would read about in the Bible? If you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Lord favors you. Many Christians believe they must somehow earn the favor of God, but the truth is, we already have His favor when we believe. God saves us because He loves us.
John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. [1] To believe in Jesus is to be a child of the King and experience His most significant measure of His favor, eternal life.
God Favored Mary, the Mother of Jesus
When the Angel Gabriel visited Mary, he had a fascinating insight into God’s view of her. Luke 1:26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.[2]
Can you imagine what was going through Mary’s mind as the angel spoke to her? What an honor to receive such an angelic visit with such fantastic news.
God is Searching for Someone to Bless with His Favor
When the Holy Spirit leads someone to place their faith in Jesus, doors begin to open for them that they may not be aware of. One of those doors is God’s favor. As the Lord begins to shape and mold us, we can share the good news of Jesus with others so they can also be blessed and favored. Like the Lord’s grace, his favor is not something we can earn because it is a gift. His favor is a gift of love from our Savior to us.
Remember that God’s favor can change everything in your life. He can transform anydifficult situation you face, whether in your family, health, or relationships. As He did for Mary, God granted her favor to become the mother of Jesus. God’s plan for her life was infinitely more significant than she had ever imagined.
God can grant this favor at any time and to anyone. Psalm 5:12For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love. [3] His favor provides us with protection and blessing as we please Him.
