The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

You are alive today for such a time as this. We see this truth expressed to Queen Esther by her cousin Mordecai. An evil government official, Haman, plotted to kill all the Jews in the Persian Empire, telling King Xerxes that certain people did not keep the King’s laws. Of course, this was a lie, but King Xerxes followed the plan and did not question Haman.

Earlier in the book of Esther, King Xerxes vanquished Queen Vashti for her disobedience, resulting in a search for a new queen. Through this search, Esther, a Jew, was made Queen. Mordecai, a minor government official working at the King’s gate, had raised his cousin Esther. When the decree went out ordering the death of the Jews, there was a tremendous outpouring of prayer and fasting by God’s people.

Mordecai Advised Queen Esther

When Esther became Queen, she did not realize the Lord had prepositioned her as Queen for something significant. The Lord would work through Mordecai to awaken Esther to God’s plan for her to help her fulfill her destiny. Esther 4:14 If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this? [1]

As the story unfolds, the Lord used Esther to save her fellow Jews. Through significant risk to herself, she would intercede before the king and halt satan’s plan to kill the Jews. God created Esther and placed her in a particular place in history to make a difference, and He has also created you and placed you in a specific place in history. God is not caught off guard by the events in your life and the nation you live.

Trust That God is at Work

Is the Lord awakening you to His plan for your life? Are you alive now for such a time as this? Think how Esther felt when she realized God’s plans for her life were more significant than hers. I believe that is true not only for Esther but also for us. God’s plans are beyond what we can hope or dream. God’s purposes are being worked out in your life the way He planned, but from our perspective, things may seem confusing and unclear.

I enjoy this story because it encourages and teaches us to trust God’s guidance. The Lord did not call us to faith and let us fend for ourselves. Instead, the Lord continually guides us by His word and the work of the Holy Spirit. Begin to look for the Lord’s hand upon your life. The Lord is working out His design for your life with gentle nudges by the Holy Spirit and, at other times, by something more abrupt or severe.

We may think we are insignificant, but in God’s eyes, we are a child of God, whom He died for on Calvary, and for whom He has a high calling for such a time as this. To learn more, listen here:
