True wisdom comes from God and is life-changing as we follow His guidance. We can find the wisdom that everyone needs in the pages of the Scriptures. This is free for all to read. Proverbs 2:6For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. [1]
There have been times when I struggled to find the right path to go down that was only resolved by praying for God’s wisdom. James reminds us that God freely gives wisdom, but we must humble ourselves, ask, and put our faith into action. James 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. [2] Often, our pride keeps us from humbling ourselves and coming to God in our desperation as we search for answers.
God Filled Stephen With Wisdom
Stephen, a faithful believer in the early church, was full of God’s grace. The Holy Spirit enabled him to perform amazing miracles and signs among the people. Although Stephen was doing the work of the Lord, he was opposed by satan working through sinful people. Often, when we are experiencing success in building God’s Kingdom, we receive pushback from our enemy. During this time, we must rely on God’s wisdom, and this is what Stephen did.
Men from the Synagogue of Freed Slaves started to debate him because he was a follower of Jesus. Acts 6:10 None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. [3] Stephen clearly presented the Gospel as the Holy Spirit empowered him, and they could not refute it. Sadly, they would not listen to the truth because of their hard hearts. In God’s mercy, He sent Stephen to bring them the truth of Jesus, but it fell on deaf ears. Our rebellious spirit often keeps us from looking up to the Lord for guidance.
Looking Up to God
When we look down, we look away from what God wants to do in our lives. When we humble ourselves, it opens a life-changing door in the spiritual realm. As we open God’s word, His wisdom is poured out on us, and reading His words helps us grow spiritually. As we fill our minds with God’s word, it becomes easier to hear His voice when we need to make a decision.
In addition, the Lord guides us by the Holy Spirit, who reminds us what God’s Word says to do. Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
