The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Jesus’ prophecy during His trial with Caiaphas took place when He was put under oath and with that, broke His silence. Matthew 26:62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Well, aren’t you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?” 63 But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I demand in the name of the living God—tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” [1]

Jesus revealed who He was. In the future, instead of Jesus being on trial, Caiaphas would be on trial with Jesus as the judge. Matthew 26:64 Jesus replied, “You have said it. And in the future, you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.” [2] The words coming on the clouds represent the power and glory of God. Jesus’ prophecy agrees with another prophecy. Psalm 110:1 The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.” [3]

Roles Will Be Reversed

Although Caiaphas, the High Priest, appeared to be in control of the trial of Jesus, he was not. God is sovereign, and even this unfair trial would work out for the good of the Kingdom of God. In a coming role reversal on judgment day, Jesus would be sitting on the right hand of God judging His accusers, and they would have to answer to Him.

Although Jesus spoke the truth as He proclaimed this prophecy, the Jewish leadership ignored it. Why was that? The fear of the Lord is important. Proverbs 9:10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. [4] Although Caiaphas the High Priest had Biblical knowledge, he neither feared the Lord nor exercised good judgment.

When we are pride-filled, the truth may be right in front of us, but we are blind to the spiritual reality. A fine robe may cover our body, but only having faith in Jesus will save us from our sins. While man looks at the outside, the Lord looks at the heart.

Who Will Be Saved on Judgment Day?

One day, we will all face judgment, but as believers in Jesus, we hope for eternal life in heaven. Hebrews 9:27 And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, 28 so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him. [5]

Jesus is our judge, but also our Savior. When we place our faith in Jesus, our sins are wiped away! Without faith in Jesus on judgment day, we would be heading to hell, but with faith in Him, we are heading to heaven with all its majesty. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians heaven is so wonderful that we can’t imagine how wonderful it is. Wow, this is what awaits every believer in Jesus!
