God’s sovereign plan means we can always trust Him regardless of the circumstances we may be experiencing. It is easy to trust God when things are going well, but what happens when life becomes difficult? What if God leads you to do something challenging?
As we look at the person of Noah, who walked with God, his trust in God grew over time. I believe there is no greater factor in building our trust in God’s sovereign will than growing in our relationship with Him. God had revealed His plan to send a great flood to destroy evil humanity. Noah had to trust God to navigate through this great storm.
God’s Sovereign Will Unfolds One Day at a Time
As God unfolded His plan to destroy wicked humanity, He also had a plan to save Noah and His family. He told Noah to build an ark to preserve him and his family, animals, and birds. While Noah was the builder, God was the architect and director of this enormous project, guiding him day by day. Just as the Lord guided Noah, He also directs us. Psalm 32: 8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.[1]
Not only did God guide the construction of the ark, but God also gave Noah a message for his neighbors. 2 Peter 2: 5 And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment.[2]
Then came a day when God called Noah, his family, birds, and animals to enter the ark. It was then God shut the door of the ark. God told Noah it would rain for forty days and forty nights, but not how long they would have to stay on the ark. For our well-being, God does not overwhelm us with what lies in the future so much as what He wants us to do today.
The Water Began to Recede
God is sovereign over creation and halted the source of the flood. Genesis 8: 2 The underground waters stopped flowing, and the torrential rains from the sky were stopped. 3 So the floodwaters gradually receded from the earth. After 150 days, 4 exactly five months from the time the flood began, the boat came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. [3]
As the ark came to rest on Mt. Ararat, the Lord brought Noah and his family to a safe place. Sometimes, it is hard to understand God’s sovereignty because we can only see things from our vantage point. At times, we must trust God like Noah did. Through this great reset of humanity, God preserved the line of the Savior. In God’s perfect timing, Jesus came into the world to rescue us from our sins. Paul says it best concerning God’s sovereignty. Romans 8: 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.[4]
