Have you ever considered heavenly interruptions and where you would be without them? Peter, Andrew, James, and John were a fisherman before the Lord called them to be disciples. Noah was going about his life until the Lord called him to build an ark to save his family from the great flood. The Apostle Paul was a persecutor of Christians until the Lord blinded him and knocked him off his horse on the way to Damascus.
Without God’s heavenly interruptions, Paul would never have become a believer or planted churches on three missionary journeys. Just think, without God’s divine interruption, no one would come to faith in Jesus.
The Lord Interrupts the Building of the Tower of Babel
As the people built the tower of Babel, they did not realize that the Lord was watching over them and the intentions of their hearts. God had told Noah to multiply and fill the earth after the flood. The people multiplied but rebelled against God’s command to spread out. Instead, they dug their feet in. Genesis 11:4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” [1]
God was fully aware of the building of the tower. He “went down” as He evaluated the situation. Despite their ambitions, they were not beyond God’s divine gaze. Which is something we need to remember at all times.
In this situation, the Triune God, Father, Son, and Spirit, determined the building of the tower and their plans would end, for He had a better plan.Genesis 11:6 “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! 7 Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.” [2] Because the builders couldn’t communicate with each other, the tower building stopped. The people began to disperse across the earth, gathering around each language.
God Interrupts Our Plans for His Greater Good
On the day of Pentecost, the believers were gathered in one place praying when suddenly God did something unexpected. Acts 2:4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. [3] God reversed what happened at the Tower of Babel, which enabled people to speak different languages to spread the Gospel.
God’s divine interruptions always invite us to align our lives with His will. Is the Lord speaking to you as you read this devotion? Is He calling you to take the narrow road that draws you closer to Him? If so, you are experiencing transformation by the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord!
