The hand of God in our lives is often evident as we reflect on our life’s journey because He is the Divine Intruder. If you have come to faith in Jesus as your Savior, it is because of the work of the Holy Spirit. Others have experienced prompts by the Holy Spirit that supernaturally guide us, and sometimes these occur when we least expect them. The Lord breaks into our lives because He is the God of intervention who works on our behalf to fulfill His plans for us. He intervenes in our lives in times we don’t expect and other times when we desperately call out to Him.
God gave Isaiah a promise that is still true for us. Isaiah 41:10Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.[1] God intervened when Abram’s nephew Lot, who lived in Sodom, was captured by victorious invaders. Genesis 14:13 But one of Lot’s men escaped and reported everything to Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oak grove belonging to Mamre the Amorite.[2] Not long after this, his uncle Abram gathered 318 trained men to rescue him.
Trusting God
Yes, God does intervene in our lives. But what happens when it doesn’t occur in our timing or when God appears silent? No matter how it seems, the Lord has not forsaken us. Trusting the Lord even when nothing seems to happen requires faith. We must recognize His sovereignty and refocus on His promises, rather than immediate results.
It is often when God is silent that our dependence on Him grows as we look to Him in anticipation. As we spend time in God’s word, we realize He speaks to and comforts us with His words. Deuteronomy 31:8 Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. [3]
The Lord Breaks into Our Lives Regularly
Our heavenly Father watches over us as He determines the next time He will break into our lives. The Lord often prevents something from happening that we are unaware of, so we don’t realize He intervened. Other times, He intervenes to help us take the next step of faith.
Our heavenly Father did not wait for our invitation before He sent His Son Jesus into the world to rescue us. Clothing Himself in humanity as God and man, Jesus came into this world destined to give His life as a sacrifice for our sins. As people, we are weak, and Paul gives us insight into how God helped us during those times. Romans 8:26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.[4]
