The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The consequences of worldly decisions eventually catch up with us and can have far-reaching effects. When we are on the wrong path, we often listen to the wrong voices, such as popular culture or friends who are also on the wrong path. Nobody wakes up and says, “I want to head down the wrong road.” For most people, this gradual change happens over time.

Jesus gives us insight. Matthew 7:13You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow, and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. [1]

Those on the broad road do not tell you that the world’s riches will never satisfy or fulfill you apart from God’s love, grace, truth, and forgiveness. When Abram’s nephew Lot accompanied him to Egypt due to the famine in Canaan, he fell under the spell of worldly wealth. When they returned to Canaan, Abram returned to the Lord and worshiped Him, while Lot continued to pursue worldly ways.

Godly Wisdom

You and I may not know where to go in life, but God does. The Lord is always there to guide us. James 1:If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.[2] Our choices have a ripple effect on us and those closest to us; this is why faith in Christ is so important.

Paul writes to teach the church in Colossae. Colossians 2:2I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. [3] As believers, the Holy Spirit enables us to turn away from our old way of life and embark on a new journey that God knows is best for us.

It is not too late to return to the Lord if you have strayed from the right path. When we are on the broad road, and everyone is going in the wrong direction, we desperately need the Lord’s strength to turn around as we listen to His voice. Paul tells how God helps us. Philippians 4:13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. [4]

Crying Out to God in Desperation

Lot continued to pursue worldly ways, choosing to live near Sodom. Later, he was drawn into the wicked city of Sodom and taken away by enemies who plundered Sodom. Genesis 14:12 They also captured Lot—Abram’s nephew who lived in Sodom—and carried off everything he owned. [5]

This event did not awaken Lot spiritually, but that does not have to happen to you! The Lord is only a prayer away; no matter what we have done, we can confess our sins and ask forgiveness. We still may have to suffer the consequences of our decisions, but God now places us on a new path in life as He transforms us.
