You will be Jesus’ witness. These are some of the most important words Jesus spoke to the disciples before He ascended into heaven. Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. [1]
When our Savior ascended into heaven, His physical presence left the earth, but He promised to send the Holy Spirit, so His spiritual presence would remain among humanity. The Holy Spirit is the power that enables believers to tell others about Jesus. A battery-powered car will not work without the power of a battery, and we as believers can’t be effective witnesses without the Spirit powering us.
Consider how many people you interact with each week, whom you might have the chance to share about Jesus. Sharing your faith may seem intimidating, but with the Holy Spirit’s help, we can do it! In addition, we can pray and ask for the Lord’s guidance to lead us to the right people to witness to at the right time.
Power from the Holy Spirit
The power of the Holy Spirit enables ordinary people to gain the strength they need to share the good news of Jesus. This power enables people to be bold, confident, and insightful, helping them find the right words to express their thoughts effectively. These are all gifts that the Holy Spirit provides so that you can share the good news of Jesus with others.
More than once, I have heard personally how the words just came when someone was witnessing. It was so powerful that they knew only through the Holy Spirit could they know what to say at the right time. When we step out in faith, we can always trust God to be with us. Witnessing isn’t just about what we can do for God; it’s about sharing our testimony of how God has transformed us through His word and the work of the Spirit.
The Lord has given us His Spirit so every believer can be a witness to lost souls. As we live out the Christian life, others see us and may ask, “Why are you different?” giving us a chance to share the Gospel. Proverbs 14:25A truthful witness saves lives. [2] Who witnessed to you about Jesus, and how did that change your life?
God Wants You to Join Him
One of the fantastic things about our Lord is that He chooses to include us in His work! The creator of the universe wants us to join Him on a mission to save people from spending eternity in hell. There is not a single person the Lord doesn’t want to receive the gift of salvation so they can spend eternity in heaven with Him. When we love our neighbors as Jesus calls us to, we want the best for them. Paul says it best. Ephesians 2:10For we are God’s masterpiece.
