We can praise God for His faithfulness daily! Have you ever thought about how God’s faithfulness has impacted your life? Deuteronomy 7:9Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.[1]
When Mary and Joseph took the baby Jesus to the Temple for their purification offering, an older man named Simeon, who was righteous and devout, was waiting there. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah, and now that day had come.
As Simeon grew older, he must have felt a sense of excitement akin to a child waiting for Christmas as he looked forward to the Savior. He probably wondered if tomorrow would be the day. He knew that God was faithful, and it was only a matter of time before he would see his Savior. The Holy Spirit had prompted him to go to the Temple, and now he experienced God’s faithfulness once again.
Faithfulness is Part of God’s Character
Imagine you are Mary and Joseph at the Temple for your purification offering when an older man approaches. He likely has a broad smile, and then something miraculous occurs. Luke 2:28Simeon took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, 29 “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. 30 I have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared for all people. [2]
The Scriptures don’t specify how long Simeon had been waiting for the Messiah, but we know he was eagerly anticipating the Savior because he trusted that the Lord was faithful. God’s word often reminds us of His unwavering faithfulness. Time after time, we see that when God makes a promise, He keeps it—even when it looks impossible. If He says something will happen, we can trust it will. This holds true for what has happened in the past, what’s happening now, and what’s still to come.
God is Faithful Throughout Our Lives
Just as God was faithful to Simeon, He is faithful to us. As a pastor, I have come to trust and rely on God’s faithfulness. In the original language of the Old Testament, the word faithfulness means to be steadfast, firm, and stable.[3] In a world that’s constantly changing, it’s comforting to have something steady to hold onto.
When life feels upside down, you can trust in God’s faithfulness, which remains your unwavering rock amidst life’s currents. The Lord doesn’t change with trends or cultural shifts. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. Like the North Star shining through a stormy sky, His faithfulness and steadiness will guide us if we keep our eyes fixed on Him.
If you are searching for an anchor today, reach out to Him — He promises to answer and steer you in the right direction. As a result, we have praise for God’s faithfulness. To learn more, listen here:
