In the story of Elijah, the prophet, in 1 Kings 18:16-39 we see the nation of Israel had drifted away from the Lord. As they drifted away from the Lord they chased after other gods including worshiping Baal. Baal was fertility God to which they sacrificed children. It says in Jeremiah 19:5a They have built pagan shrines to Baal, and there they burn their sons as sacrifices to Baal.
Erosion can happen very slowly and this often occurs in our spiritual life when we have forgotten about God. We can drift away from the Lord and fall into sin; it can be so gradual we don’t realize the danger.
The good news is the Holy Spirit is always calling us back and awakening us. God wants to draw us back to the path He has for us. If you are there today, listen to the Lord’s calling! Ask the Lord to forgive you and to help you to get back on the trail that leads to eternal life.
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
