- Today’s Scripture & Insight: Psalm 33:18
When our children were small and we were running errands around town, I would never let them out of my site. As their father, I was their protector. I did not have to hold their hand every minute, but if they needed help or were in danger, I was there within seconds.
In our story, Moses’ sister was watching him closely as his mother placed him the Nile. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. 4 The baby’s sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. [1] Exodus 2:3-4
How comforting to know that our Lord watches over us!
- Psalm 121: 5-7 – The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. 6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. 7 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. 8 The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. [2]
- Psalm 34:15 -The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.
- Psalm 33:18 -But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. [3]
The Lord watches over us because He loves us, protects us and He is interested in what we are doing. Our Lord is the perfect parent who pays close attention to His children. He knows we are helpless like sheep. Sheep need a shepherd to continually look after them, and we are much like them.
Jesus says in John 10:11,“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.[4]
Thank you, Jesus, for being the Good Shepherd and for watching over me! Help me, Lord, to be thankful for what You have done, especially giving Your life for me on the cross. Amen.
