In our story of Moses and the Hebrews, the Lord tells Moses that He carried the people on Eagles’ wings.
Ex.19:3 Then Moses climbed the mountain to appear before God. The Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.
What does it mean? “You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.” The eagle is a very powerful bird that has great strength. God is all powerful and has great strength. Eagles are very caring parents. They protect their young with a high nest. Both parents bring food to the eaglets and teach them to fly. If an eaglet struggles in flight, a parent will swoop under the young bird and carry them, so they don’t fall. To be carried is to rely on someone else. God wants us to rely on Him and only God could free the Hebrews from Egypt. God wanted the people to worship Him and so He carried them out of Egypt so they could do so. He carried them to Himself. This brief phrase makes it clear it was God who made it possible for the Hebrews to escape Egypt.
Does God still carry us on Eagles’ wings today? The answer is yes. The Lord goes before us daily. All of our sins were placed on our Savior Jesus upon the cross, something only the Lord could do. Only God could free us from sin. The Lord made a way for us to go to heaven if we place our faith in Jesus as our Savior. The work of the Holy Spirit draws us to faith and when we believe the Holy Spirt takes up residence in our heart. The Lord lifts us up and encourages us through His Word. The Lord hears our prayers as we lift our voices up to His throne. When we pass into eternity as believers in Jesus, the Lord carries us to heaven. Wow! We have an amazing God!
