The idea that God wants to meet with us is a wonderful thought that is true. God is able to meet with us any time we desire. He is never too busy, and we don’t need an appointment. He is always there to hear our prayers.
We serve a God who constantly and powerfully pursues us. Revelation 3:20“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. 21 Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. [1]
God is knocking on the door of your heart right now. With every gentle breeze that moves across your face, with every beautiful sunrise, with every breathtaking star in the sky, God is declaring His love for you.
God pursues us in any and every way He can. We see this as we read stories in Bible on how He pursues people and even sinners like us. Paul was off the trail and persecuted believers in Jesus, yet the Lord pursued Him. Peter did not think he was good enough and yet God pursued him. Jonah decided to head in the opposite direction, but God pursed him. As you read this God is pursuing you.
In our story of Moses and the Hebrews, the Lord wanted to meet with them. Ex.19:9 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud, Moses, so the people themselves can hear me when I speak with you. Then they will always trust you.” Moses told the Lord what the people had said. 10 Then the Lord told Moses, “Go down and prepare the people for my arrival. Consecrate them today and tomorrow and have them wash their clothing. 11 Be sure they are ready on the third day, for on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai as all the people watch.[2] Can you imagine the excitement of the people as they looked forward to their meeting with God?
The greatest desire of God’s heart is for relationship with His people. When we take time to notice His constant pursuit of us, then we will naturally begin to center our lives around meeting with our heavenly Father. For some of us this may happen when we are young, for me it took a long time into adulthood.
The Creator of the universe deeply longs to continually, consistently meet with you and me. God, who is almighty, all-knowing, and filled with grace is the fulfillment of perfect love. He longs to be known by you because He loves you. We are created to be drawn by the desire of our Creator. We are made to be known and to know our heavenly Father. We are created to walk with Him every moment of every day. It’s not that we “should” center our lives around meeting with God, it’s that we were created to do so.
