Jesus washes us so we can see; has He washed your sins away so you can see spiritually? What were the circumstances when you came to faith? Or are you still searching? If you are still searching, today the Lord is calling you to end your search and place your faith in Jesus as your Savior.
2 Cor. 6:2For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you. Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.”[1]
Jesus Washed a Friend so He Could See
His Bible laid on his chest as people walked by the casket to take one last look at their friend and loved one. What happened that this Bible was placed on his heart? About a year earlier this man, who was ill from cancer, was led to faith by one of his caretakers. After placing his faith in Jesus, he was baptized, and the change was so dramatic that the countenance on his face changed.
Something happened! He had encountered Jesus, and the Lord washed him clean so he could see spiritually. He began to reflect how merciful the Lord had been in his life as he served two tours of combat in Vietnam and came home. “God saved me in Vietnam from death so he could save me spiritually,” he said.
A Blind Man Washes and Can See
Something also happened to the blindman in our story. He was physically blind, but something happened when Jesus placed mud on his eyes and told him to wash in the pool of Siloam. John 9:6 Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. 7 He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing! [2]
As this blind man washed the mud out of eyes something greater than sight began to happen. He became a believer in Jesus and when he did, the Lord washed away his sin. The same thing can happen to us. Jesus washes us so we can see. This washing removes our sin. Even though we may sin again, we can confess, and Jesus will again forgive our sins.
Questions about the Washing of Jesus
Later, the religious leaders questioned this man about who healed him. The religious leaders were opposed to Jesus because He healed him on the Sabbath. Healing on the Sabbath was considered work and was against one of their extra rules. Because they did not like this man’s response when they questioned him, the religious leaders threw him out of the synagogue.
John 9:35 When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36 The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.” 37 “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!” 38 “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus. [3]
The blind man not only washed the mud from his eyes to but had his sins washed away. As a believer, take time to confess your sins to Jesus. If you are not a believer, go to Him in prayer so He can wash you clean.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen[4]
