Have you ever been faced with a situation where you needed supernatural discernment to make the correct decision? Have you prayed, Lord, grant me discernment? As we go through life’s journey, most people will find they need this type of discernment on a regular basis. The good news is the Lord provides discernment for those who seek Him in prayer. James 1:5If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
Lord, Grant Me Discernment with my Family
When our daughter was in 7th grade, she struggle with a negative situation in school. Neither my wife or I had experienced anything like this and did not know what to do. There were lots of tears but no real answers until we went to the Lord.
The Lord, in His mercy, granted us the wisdom and opened the door for her to go to an online Christian school. At the time, this was all new technology and the school had just opened at the beginning of the school year. God granted us the wisdom as we prayed for our daughter.
Looking for Discernment
In John chapter nine, Jesus healed a man who was born blind. This was an amazing miracle and the man’s neighbors took him to the local experts, the Pharisees. John 9:13 Then they took the man who had been blind to the Pharisees, 14 because it was on the Sabbath that Jesus had made the mud and healed him. 15 The Pharisees asked the man all about it. So he told them, “He put the mud over my eyes, and when I washed it away, I could see!” 16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath.” Others said, “But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?” So there was a deep division of opinion among them.
These men were trying to understand the miracle but were only using their human intellect. What if the Pharisees would have humbled themselves and prayed for wisdom in the situation? In my opinion, the Lord would have answered their prayer by showing them that Jesus was from God.
Lord, Grant Us Discernment for Life
There will be times in life where we need wisdom only God can provide. Sometimes the Lord puts us in a box where He is the only answer. The key is humility! Will we humble ourselves and submit to God or go and rely on our own strength?
I have relied on my own strength and made the wrong decision. God was teaching me the foolishness of not humbling myself and coming to Him in prayer. Perhaps you have done something similar. Fortunately, God allows us to learn from our mistakes, Ask God for forgiveness and His help to see you through.
Lord, help me make wise choices today. Give me insight to discern good and evil and choose according to Your will. I desire Your truth, where great wisdom can be found. May I seek You more and more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
