A faith that guides you is important in life’s storms. Throughout the centuries, storms have blown sailing ships off course. This requires the captain to return to the route. Our lives may be like sailing ships blown off course by storms. Sometimes the storms of life are of our own making caused by our poor choices. We may find ourselves far off course and call out to God for help.
John Newton who wrote the Hymn “Amazing Grace” was blown off course in a literal storm on the ocean. This storm was symbolic of the course of his life. He cried out to the Lord not only to save his ship, but to save him spiritually. He wrote these words, “I once was lost but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see.” John Newton’s life would never be the same after his encounter with Jesus. Jesus would steer his spiritual ship for the rest of his life.
God Guides the Believer Back on Course
After I got out of school I drifted for a couple of years and was way off course. I was fortunate that I was believer in Jesus and the Holy Spirit continually called me back. Finally, I let the Lord take the wheel and He guided me back to safe harbor. Never again would I take such a detour in life. That is the blessing of faith which guides the believer.
Jacob was Guided by Faith
Jacob was old and his life was near its end when he knew it was time to bless his grandsons. The Scripture tells it was by faith Jacob did this. Hebrews 11: 21 It was by faith that Jacob, when he was old and dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and bowed in worship as he leaned on his staff.[1]
Faith is trust in God’s promises and is led by the Holy Spirit. Faith motivated Jacob to do what the Lord’s plan for him was that day and that was to bless his grandchildren. As we walk in faith, we give credit to God who prompts us what to do and when to do it. The Lord wants us to be successful in life and to fulfill our plans He has for us. His desire is that you have a faith that guides you.
Trust in Jesus Opens our Eyes
When we place our faith in Jesus, it opens our eyes to where we are. We may be far from God and need His guidance to steer us back on His course and plans for our lives. As we grow in faith we begin to transition from our plans in life to God’s plans for our life. Maybe you are struggling with your plan’s versus God’s plans. The Lord may be prompting you to trust Him and take His hand as He guides you back to His plan for you.
I like the fact the Lord is very patient with us. He knows we are sinful and struggle to let go of the world and to take His hand. That, my friend, takes faith and this is not a one-time battle. Each day we need to let go of our wants and desires and ask the Lord to fill us with His desires for us that day.
Faith will Guide You
Just as Jacob was guided by faith, the Lord will also guide you. Hebrews 11:6And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.[2] Have faith in what is not seen, for God rewards us for our belief in Him, and especially when we don’t need to see to believe. May the Lord bless you as you follow Him by faith to fulfill all the Lord has for you.
