You can choose momentary pleasures or God’s desires. What if I am caught up in momentary pleasures of this world? If you are, you are not alone! How do I get off this train if this is the path I am on? Who is behind this continued drum beat to go down this road?
Our enemy, satan, knows our weaknesses and how momentary pleasures of the world distract us from the Lord. When we take our eyes off the Lord, we can easily be deceived and led in a subtle, but destructive direction. The wealth and glitz of this world is an attractive, but empty path.
Moses Turned from the Temporary Pleasures of this World to God’s Desires
Moses learned about temporary pleasures of the world as a prince of Egypt. After forty years of this his faith turned to God’s desires. Faith in our Lord changes everything and gives us perspective to what is really important. Also, when we have faith, we learn to depend on the Lord not ourselves. It is only through the power of the Lord working through us that we can turn away from the temptations of this world.
Hebrews 11:24 It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin.[1]
It was only when Moses made this decision that God could use him.
God Will Help You Turn Away from the Fleeting World to His Desires
You can choose momentary pleasures or God’s desires. If you have fallen into satan’s trap of worldly momentary pleasures, the Lord wants to set you free! Jesus told us His purpose here on earth. Luke 4:18The Spirit of the Lod is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free.[2]
If you want to be set free today, call on the name of the Jesus in prayer. Ask Him to help you choose His desires. The first step is simple. Then begin to spend time each day in God’s word and continue to pray. Begin by spending a few minutes each day and, as the Lord leads you, spend more. If you miss a day, don’t give up but try again the next day.
Spiritual growth is often two steps forward and one step backward. Don’t become defeated by setting a goal so high it is not realistic. Engage one or more friends to pray for you. This helps with accountability and it allows the body of Christ to encourage each other. Remember, the Lord is with you and will help you be an overcomer.
