Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The Lord is our provision and where would we be without it? Provision means the act of providing. [1] What does the Bible say about provision? The provisions of God for his people are a common theme throughout scripture. From land, food, and shelter to a righteous path of salvation, God provides for those who love Him and follow His commandments.

The Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 4:19, And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. [2]

Amazingly as one meditates on all that God provides it leads one to being more thankful. Indeed, according to Robert Emmons’ studies, who is a famous gratitude researcher, people who practice gratitude feel happier and less depressed and get rid of toxic emotions like envy or frustration.[3]

The Lord Provided for Ruth

What would it be like to leave your family and go to another country with limited resources? This is what Ruth did when she went with her mother-in-law to Bethlehem in Israel from nearby Moab. Ruth and her mother-in-law were both widows and in that era that meant a life of poverty.

Although they did not know what was ahead of them the Lord was always with them and He would provide for them in ways they did not expect. The Lord provided grain for them through the generosity of a man named Boaz who would later become Ruth’s husband. Many times, in life the Lord provides for us in ways that are very generous.

Ruth 3:16 When Ruth went back to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked, “What happened, my daughter?” Ruth told Naomi everything Boaz had done for her, 17 and she added, “He gave me these six scoops of barley and said, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’ ” [4]

Place Your Trust for Provision in Your Heavenly Father Alone

Take the weight of provision off your own shoulders and place it squarely on His. You can trust that the Lord is our provision. Stop looking to others or to circumstances to give you what you need. Look to God alone. Rest in his peace and love as you settle into a lifestyle of trusting Him.
