The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

HE{ART}: Scripture Picture: Psalm 32:7

As believers we are safe in the Lord, but we live in a time and place with where many people in the world feel unsafe. Perhaps you feel that way today as you ponder what the future holds for you and those you care about. What do we do when the world we live in seems to be falling apart?

David was Safe in the Lord

God had protected David as he hid from the threats of King Saul. David was a follower of God but when Nabal insulted David, David seemed to forget that God was his protector. He takes things into his own hands and gathers his men to take revenge. It is not recorded that Abigail sought God’s wisdom in the situation, but her actions show a trust in what God is doing with David. When she meets him, she reminds him where his protection is found.

1 Samuel 25:29 “Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling![1]

The Lord is Our Refuge

We read in Scripture about the Lord’s protection. Psalm 91:This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him… He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. [2]

These are wonderful words of comfort. Perhaps you have seen birds who have spread their wings to form a canopy of protection for their young. The small birds can huddle there until the danger passes. It is amazing to think that God is our shelter and will cover us with his feathers spread wide, and under His wings we will find refuge.

We know from this Psalm that God will shield and protect us. That doesn’t mean all pain and tragedy will miraculously flow around us. We live in a sinful world and a time may come when we don’t feel protected at all. We still have a refuge in our God who loves us and with who we will spend eternity.

Psalm 32:7For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. [3]To hear more how we are safe in the Lord, listen here: https://podpoint.com/light-of-christ-church-podcast/seeking-the-lord-changes-my-life-abigail-david
