The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Focus on Jesus and Don't Look Down - FaithGateway

The Lord has made many promises to us, and the Lord keeps His promises. Maybe you know the importance of keeping a promise. Have you ever had someone break a promise they made to you? When this happens, we often lose trust in that person and it usually changes our relationship with them.

I think if we are honest with ourselves there have been times when we each broken promises we made. It is only with the Lord’s help and humbling ourselves that we can ask that person or persons to forgive us.

The good news is the Lord is not like us. He will never break His promises to us under any circumstance! How wonderful to contemplate that the Lord keeps His promises!

Abigail Reminds David of God’s Promises

Abigail wants to avoid conflict between David’s men and her husband. She intercedes on behalf of her husband asking for forgiveness and providing for food they desperately need. In the midst of this she reminds David that he is safe in the Lord’s care like he is in His treasure pouch. Then she reminds David about God’s promises.

1 Samuel 25:30 When the Lord has done all he promised and has made you leader of Israel, 31 don’t let this be a blemish on your record. Then your conscience won’t have to bear the staggering burden of needless bloodshed and vengeance. And when the Lord has done these great things for you, please remember me, your servant!” [1]

The Lord Has made Promises to Us

Paul tells the church in Corinth that his plans may change, but Jesus’ plans will not. 2 Corinthians 1: 19 For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. 20 For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.[2]

These words are still true for us today. Jesus is the fulfillment of all the Old Testament promises of Messiah. A verse later and Paul reminds his readers that God has even given us a guarantee that these promises will come true. 2 Corinthians 1:22 and he (God) has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.[3]

When we may doubt if God ever will fulfill His promises, Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit will remind us of God’s faithfulness.
