The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God’s assignments are exciting. Has the Lord given you an assignment that you initially did not realize how exciting it would be? The world loves to tell you that following the Lord and His plan for is as dull as watching paint dry.

The truth is God’s assignments are exciting because the Lord has more for you. James and John were just fisherman until Jesus called them to be fishers of men. Nehemiah had an important job of being a cupbearer for the King, but the Lord gave him the assignment of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Matthew was a tax collector until Jesus called him to be a disciple. If you examine every person in the Bible who fulfilled the Lord’s assignment for them, you can sense the excitement in their story.

Philip Received an Exciting Assignment

Philip was enjoying a successful ministry in Samaria when the Lord gave him another exciting assignment. Acts 8:26 As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” 30 Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

31 The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him. [1]

Philip would go on to explain to the treasurer of the Ethiopia the Scripture that he did not understand. Philip would also tell him the Good News about Jesus and baptize him. Only the Lord knows the fruit that came from this encounter of a person of influence. God’s assignments are always exciting because they have such an effect on others and us.

God Will Give You an Exciting Assignment

Jesus didn’t ask the first disciples to just simply follow Him, he gave them an assignment. Jesus called them to be fishers of men. This exciting assignment set them on a new path in their life. As time passed the disciples would fish for men as they carried out the great commission. In Acts 17:6 it tells how the followers of Jesus had turned the world upside down. Wow!

The disciples also taught others how to fish for men. Imagine if Jesus would have never given them an assignment? God has a plan for your life filled with exciting assignments. He has more for your life! God’s plan for our life can only be unlocked when we humble ourselves and follow His exciting assignments. When we say the Lord’s prayer, we are asking the Lord to help us to fulfill His exciting assignments.  Matthew 6:10May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
