Has there been a time in your life when you were not trusting God’s timing? As I reflect on my life and review the timing of major events, I can see God’s perfect timing over and over.
When I was thirty-seven, I left my career in industry and studied to become a pastor. For some that may seem too old, but for me it was God’s perfect timing. It is comforting to realize God has a plan for our lives that is the very best.
Trusting God’s timing stretches us and helps build our faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7For we live by believing and not by seeing.[1]God has more for us in our lives, which calls us to wait on His timing. I grew up on a farm and when you harvest crops you don’t want to harvest too soon or too late. God’s timing is like harvesting crops at just the right time for the maximum yield.
Paul and Silas were Guided by God’s Timing
Paul was on his second mission trip, but open to God’s guidance. In the Lord’s timing He would lead Paul and Silas to where their ministry would be the most fruitful to build the Kingdom of God.
Acts 16:6 Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time. 7 Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. 8 So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of Troas. [2] Paul and Silas would eventually sail to northern Greece where they would enjoy a bountiful ministry as they trusted in God’s timing.
God Knows the Future
Isaiah, the prophet, writes about the insight the Lord has about the future and His timing. Isaiah 46:10 Only I (God) can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. [3]
God is all knowing, but we are not. As people we see the world from our viewpoint, but God sees everything. God is all wise and knows the future in every detail. As people of faith, we trust God’s timing because we trust Him. You may be waiting on God’s timing as you read this. Perhaps you are waiting for a job, a spouse, a healing, or for God’s wisdom for a certain situation.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I don’t always understand Your timing so help me to take a step of faith to completely trust you. Give me ears to hear and an obedient heart to be satisfied with Your direction. Amen.
