The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

2020 Theme - Praise Center Church Of God In Christ

Praise is a spiritual weapon. Have you ever thought about that? God has more for you and wants you to learn today about the power of praise! Psalm 149:6Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands.[1] This verse tells the saints to praise the Lord and this praise is as sharp as a weapon in battle.

The walls of Jericho were not brought down by weapons of war, but by shouts to the Lord, and the blowing of the ram’s horn. Joshua 6:20 When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.[2]

Paul and Silas Praised God in Their Pain

Paul and Silas had been beaten and thrown into prison because Paul had cast out a demon from a fortune telling slave girl. This angered her owners and ended the income. So, they brought false charges against Paul and Silas. Acts 16:22 A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods.[3]

Suffering from their wounds did not turn Paul and Silas away from God, but to Him as they praised the Lord. Acts 16:25 Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. 26 Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off![4]

You Can Use Praise as a Weapon

Something happens in the spiritual realm when God’s children praise Him. This takes on special importance when we are in a situation where praise is the last thing on our mind. Perhaps you are in a difficult situation where the Holy Spirit is prompting you to praise Him.

You may be asking the Lord “Why?” The praise that comes from our mouth when we are in the muck and the mire is precious to God. Praising God during difficulty is counter cultural. Everyone can praise the Lord when all is going well, but it takes the work of the Spirit inside of us to praise the Lord during hard times.

Take some time and think about the pestilence that has affected us all. How have you been fighting this battle? Give the battle to God by praising Him for who He is and what He has done for you. When you do, notice how your focus goes from looking down to looking up. Psalm 121:I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
