I remember praying for a young woman at a crusade in Honduras for a long-term physical ailment. Because of the power in the name of Jesus, I prayed a command prayer. I commanded this ailment to be gone in the name of Jesus. The next evening, our mission team was eating at a restaurant. This woman recognized me and came over to me and told me that Jesus had healed her. Praise the Lord!
The crippled beggar in Acts chapter three was also healed by the powerful name of Jesus. Acts 3:6Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. [1] Jesus has more for you and others and wants to use you. He has chosen you as a child of God to pray for others in the name of Jesus.
The Lord Has Given You Great Authority in His Name
As we turn to the Scriptures, the Lord tells us about the authority of praying in His name Colossians 3:17And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.[2] The authority that Jesus tells us about is delegated authority. We are not healing others in our own strength,
but in the authority granted to us from Jesus as children of God.
Paul Cast out the Demon in the Name of Jesus
Paul was confronted by a slave girl who was possessed by a fortune telling demon. Acts 16:16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” 18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. [3]
Paul was able to deliver the girl of the demon by the authority and name of Jesus. Jesus makes it clear that His name is the key to all authority: John 14:13And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.[4]
The same authority that Peter used to heal the crippled beggar and Paul used to drive out the demon is the same authority that belongs to every believer. There is power in using the name of Jesus! To hear more about the power in the name of Jesus, listen here:
