We are blessed to be a blessing. I remember an older man in our church who took me under his wing as a young man. As I got to know him over the years, I learned that he had been greatly blessed in his life. The blessings in his life were not gold or silver, but spiritual blessings. This man was very generous and did not keep his blessings to himself but poured them out generously to all those around him. I would describe him as a fountain of blessings.
Who has been a blessing to you in your life? How would your life be different without that person blessing you along your spiritual journey? God has more for us, and part of that blessing is blessing others. I had a friend who has gone to be with the Lord, and he had expression, “I am going to slap a blessing on that person.” Everywhere he went he did exactly that. This act of blessing others made a huge impact on others.
The Jailer Blessed his Family
Paul and Silas led their jailer to faith and immediately it began to change his life. Immediately, the jailer washed the wounds of the two men. Then the jailer blessed his whole household by sharing the news of salvation.
Acts 16:33Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized. 34 He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God. [1] Think how this jailer impacted his household because he wanted to share the blessing he received.
You Can Bless Others
God’s word makes it clear that He desires to bless us. He loves to answer our prayers and encourages us to pray without ceasing. But the Lord also wants us to be concerned about the needs of other people.Galatians 6:2Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.[2] When we share the burdens of others, we are blessing them.
Jesus tells us that when we bless others it also blesses those who see what we are doing. Matthew 5:16In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. [3]
The late Adrian Rogers said, “You cannot obey God without your obedience spilling out in a blessing to all those around you.” Let’s strive to bless the world with the blessings God has given us.
