The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

You may have heard it said, Jesus is our light and salvation. What does this really mean? Do you have a night light in your home to guide your steps if you get up in the night? Light is amazing because a small light can be seen for miles. Stars in the heavens are visible in the night sky although they are millions of miles away.

Jesus calls Himself the Light of the World. 8:12Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” [1]

How do we respond to a world which seems to be filled with darkness? Perhaps you are discouraged today, and the Lord is calling you to come to Him. Come to the Light of the World. When we follow Jesus, He will lead us away from the darkness of this world that seeks to destroy us and leads us to a life that is abundantly filled.

Simeon Gives Insight into Jesus’ Earthly Mission

While Simeon held Jesus in his arms, he gave Joseph and Mary prophetic insight into what Jesus would do. His words must have filled them with amazement. Luke 2:28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, 29 “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. 30 I have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared for all people. 32 He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!” [2]

Jesus is the Light That Leads to Our Salvation

Jesus is called the Word. John 1:14 So the Word became human and made his home among us.[3] Psalms also gives us insight into the Lord by connecting the Word to the Light. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. [4]

Do you need a guide along your spiritual journey? God’s word will daily guide you. The Lord will not overwhelm us because He guides us one step and day at a time.

Jesus came to this earth not only to be the light that shines in the darkness, but also our Savior. He is, as Simeon says, our salvation. No matter who you are or the sins you have committed, Jesus offers you complete forgiveness. All you need to do is confess your sins and ask Jesus into your heart to be your Savior. Because Jesus died for your sins you can be saved and have a relationship with the creator of the universe. You can have hope in the world today as wells as hope of eternal life.
