When life is overwhelming, lives can crumble. This is the story of the lives of many people across our world. With all that is happening in the world, from a crumbling of social and economic issues and problems caused by a recent virus, many people are overwhelmed.
You may feel overcome and wonder which way to turn. If so, you are not alone. The good news is in the storms of life, we can look to Jesus, the rock in the river, as we journey through life. The world may not be stable, but Jesus is. He is always there for us, encouraging, lifting, and intervening on our behalf. Psalm 18:2The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.[1]
The Storms of Life Battered Joseph
Joseph’s life was not easy, and the storms of his life probably felt like a hurricane. His brothers sold Joseph to Ishmaelite traders, who took him to Egypt as an enslaved person. While working as an enslaved person, he was falsely accused of rape, sending him to prison.
Genesis 39:20 So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained. 21 But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. [2] The Lord tells us in this story of Joseph that He was with him in prison and showed him his love. No matter your circumstances, the Lord loves you and works out His plan for your life.
Jesus Went Through a Great Storm to Rescue You
Jesus experienced the most significant storm recorded in the Bible as He went to the cross to rescue us from our sin. If the Lord can save us from sin, He can intervene in your situation to strengthen you through His word and the work of the Holy Spirit. Your circumstances may not change but remember the Lord is always with you. Psalm 43 gives us such hope when all is not going well. Psalm 43:3 Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live. [3]
Something good happens when I place my hope in the Lord when my world is falling apart. Where there was hopelessness and confusion, there is now hope, order, and calmness. Psalm 43:5 Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! [4]
