God’s perfect timing does not always seem that way when you are waiting on the Lord. As we wait on the Lord, we do not see the bigger picture of what God sees and how vital his timing is. As people of faith, we need to walk by faith, not sight, knowing the Lord is all-knowing and has our best interest always.
God created Adam and Eve in His timing, and you were born on this earth at a specific time. You could have been born 1000 years ago, yet the Lord chose for you to be born when you were. Think of a time in your life when God’s timing was perfect, only in retrospect. What did the Lord teach you as you waited on His timing?
Joseph Felt Forgotten
Joseph was a slave in Egypt in the house of Potiphar, the Captain of the Guard for Pharoah, when he was falsely accused of rape and imprisoned. While Joseph was in prison, the Lord continued to bless him, showed him kindness, and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
Sometime later, Pharoah’s baker and cupbearer offended him and were imprisoned in the same prison as Joseph. One day the cupbearer shared a dream that troubled him, and Joseph, with the Lord’s help, gave him the meaning of the dream. Joseph told the cupbearer that he would return to be the Pharoah’s cupbearer in three days. Joseph asked the cupbearer to plead his case before Pharaoh. Two more years go by before the cupbearer remembers Joseph. Pharoah is desperate for someone to interpret his dream, and the situation prompts the cupbearer to act.
Genesis 41:14 Pharaoh sent for Joseph at once, and he was quickly brought from the prison. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he went in and stood before Pharaoh. 15 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream, you can interpret it.” 16 “It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied. “But God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.” [1] Joseph correctly interpreted Pharoah’s dream and was promoted from a prisoner to the highest-ranking official of the Pharoah in God’s perfect timing.
God Has Not Forgotten You
Like Joseph, you may be waiting on God’s timing. An older friend in his upper eighties was dying and waiting for the Lord to take him to heaven. He was disappointed because he woke up and was still here and not in heaven.
No matter your situation, the Lord has not forgotten about you. While we are waiting on the Lord, our faith grows as we trust Him. Isaiah 40:31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. [2]
