The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God made humans in His image, as revealed in the creation story. We need God’s revelation to know how special we are in His eyes and how much He loves us. Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female, he created them. [1]

Realize that God created you in His image. God is all-powerful; He is everywhere and is all-knowing. This is the God who decided to make you and place you on this earth for His purposes.

Made in God’s Image Makes You Special

In the week of creation, the Lord created many things, including all living creatures, but only man was made in His image. The Lord created man for a particular purpose: to have a relationship with Him that no other creature could. As people, God gave us abilities such as being able to love, create, think, communicate, have relationships with others and have a soul. He also gave us free will.

We have free will to follow the Lord and make Him our Savior or reject Him. The Lord wanted humanity He created to love Him freely and not be robotic. Although sin corrupted our relationship with God, His love for us was so great He sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to die for our sins. The price Jesus paid for all our sins shows us how important we are to God and the depth of His love.

Made in God’s Image to Last for Eternity

The Bible tells us that God is eternal, meaning He had no beginning or end. Being people, we all have a beginning, but we don’t have an ending. In addition, we will live forever with the Lord in heaven or be separated for all eternity in hell. Faith in Jesus makes it possible for anyone to spend eternity with the Lord, angels, and all believers in heaven.

John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.[2] Heaven is so wonderful that Paul tells us that we can’t imagine how good it is. 1 Corinthians 2:That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” [3] One day each of us will step into eternity, but while we are on this earth, the Lord has unique plans for us to build His Kingdom.
