The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

We may fail, but Jesus keeps His promises. This is a comforting thought because we know as sinners, we fall short. Our Lord is like the giant rock in the river that never moves and can always be counted on.

I remember when I got into trouble as a boy and had to go and see my father. Although that was decades ago, I remember that it was a long walk and something I wasn’t looking forward to. I remember falling short many times and asking the Lord for forgiveness. I can be thankful the Lord is not like me because He never fails to keep His promises.

Jesus Told His disciples to Meet Him in Galilee

The night before Jesus was crucified, He gave the disciples insight into what was to come. He would meet them in Galilee after He rose from the dead. Although Jesus told them plainly, what He said did not make sense until it unfolded.

Mark 14:26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.27 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:‘I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 “But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”[1]

The disciples scattered at the arrest of Jesus, just as He predicted. Only John was at the cross to support Jesus during His most desperate time of need. In many ways, the disciples felt they had let the Lord down when He needed them. When Jesus rose from the dead, Mary Magdalene came to them with unbelievable news. Matthew 28: 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”[2]

Restored Despite Failure

Despite their failure, Jesus still wanted to meet the disciples in Galilee. This must have filled their hearts with joy. Jesus would keep His promise to the disciples just as He said. Later, Jesus did meet them in Galilee, where the disciples were fishing. At this time, Jesus dealt with Peter’s denial. Jesus gave Peter and the other disciples new tasks to carry out His ministry.

Like the disciples, you may have fallen short, but as we look to the Lord, He forgives us as we repent. When I fail, it is very humbling, and the Lord does His best work in me as He lifts me out of muck and mire. Take the hand of Jesus, let Him lift you, and reassure you of His great love for you even when you have failed. Wow! Our God is fantastic.
