The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The value of your soul is so great that no money or resources could purchase it. We do not think much about this, but God does, for He made you and died for your sins. Jesus tells us in Mark 8:36, “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”[1]

We live in a world where wealth seems to have the most value, yet the Lord tells us that each person is of greater value than the entire world and everything in it. Why is the soul so valuable? The soul has an eternal quality and will live forever. One day your body will die, but your soul, which God made in His image, will never die. Your soul will live forever in heaven with Jesus or be separated from God in hell.

Jesus Gives Us Life

The Lord tells us that He is the vine, and we are the branches. Just as a branch must be connected to the vine to live, we must be connected to Jesus. To be connected to Jesus is to place our faith in Him and follow Him as our Good Shepherd.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?[2]

You Are of Great Value

Genesis 1: 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them. [3] To understand the value of your soul, remember God created you in His image. David gives us more insight. Psalm 139:16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered![4]

We begin to understand how valuable we are to the Lord when we realize how precious we are in His sight. We are so valuable that Jesus gave His life for us on the cross to pay the price to redeem us from our sins. The Lord would not pay such a price for us if we were not valuable. Finally, you are valued because the Lord loves you; it is why Jesus died for you. Wow! What an amazing Savior.
