The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Giving yourself to God is giving up your free will for something better the Lord has for you. Relying on the Lord’s guidance and direction is a significant step of faith for a believer. The Lord has a plan and purpose for our life, but many people walk through life not realizing their full potential because they don’t want to give in to God.

Giving ourselves to God, unfortunately, is not a one-day occurrence but a daily battle, as Jesus tells us. Luke 9:23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.[1] Each day has a new beginning as we journey through life, and the Holy Spirit may be moving on your heart. He wants you to put your selfish ways behind you and follow Him. What would your day or week look like if you gave yourself to God?

Let God Control You

Paul tells us plainly that God or sin will control us, and he implores each person not to let sin control you but God. Romans 6:13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life.[2] When we let God control us, we begin to think of life more in eternal terms versus living for today or the world.

As a believer, the Lord calls us to live a life of sacrifice to Him, which requires yielding to the Lord. There are great blessings when we submit to the Lord. We can better resist the devil and his schemes as we offer ourselves to the Lord. When we submit ourselves to the Lord, we want to listen, obey and follow Him. It is hard to give up our will for the Lord, but with His help, it is possible. Philippians 4:13For I can do everything through Christ, who strengthens me. [3]

When God Controls, it Transforms Me

Free will is a fantastic gift the Lord has given us. We can freely tell the Lord we don’t want to be molded or shaped by Him or ask Him to shape and transform us for His purposes. When we let the Lord control us, we see life through a changed lens. A darkened lens is all about us, but as the Lord opens our eyes, we discover that true peace, satisfaction, and purpose are only found in walking in submission to Jesus.

The Holy Spirit will help us submit to the Lord as we pray and ask for the His help. We sometimes think we can fight our battles only to be easily defeated by the enemy. It is impossible in our strength to fight spiritual battles without the Lord’s assistance. The Lord loves to come alongside us and help us with our spiritual battles because He loves you and desires that you fulfill His plans for your life.
