The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God gives spiritual gifts to help you fulfill the plans and purpose the Lord has for you. We don’t deserve spiritual gifts, but God, in His grace, bestows them upon His children. Spiritual gifts given by the Lord are special abilities the Holy Spirit gives to every person of faith to minister to people. The Holy Spirit gives us these gifts so we can do extraordinary work for God.

The Lord wants to use you and the gifts He has given you to impact those around you. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth so they were informed and better understood the gifts, and they were to be used to build up the Kingdom. As Paul taught the Corinthian church about the spiritual gifts in his letter, he also teaches us.

There are Different Gifts

God’s children receive many gifts to build up the church; not one gift is greater than the next. 1 Corinthians 12:There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. [1]

I was on a mission trip when one of my friends with the gift of healing prayed for a young woman with very poor eyesight. After praying, the women’s eyes improved, and she could read things at a distance she could not see previously. A miracle brought healing to this woman and built up her faith and everyone at the conference. In God’s perfect timing, the women received a gift of healing from someone using their spiritual gift to build up the body.

Do You Have a Spiritual Gift?

Have you ever wondered about having a spiritual gift? As people, it is easier to see the gifts in others than to see our own. My aunt could play the piano by ear, which did not seem like a gift because it came easily to her. For someone who is not very musical like me, you can easily recognize the gift of music in another person.

There are also times when we can be jealous of the gifts of others and miss the gifts the Lord has given us. As we use our gifts, we need to remember that the Lord, with great thought, gave you the gifts that you have to fulfill His plan for your life. I may not have the gifts I think I need, but I have the gifts to carry out everything the Lord has for me in this lifetime. Our fellow believers can be a great source in identifying spiritual gifts they see in us. In addition, ask the Lord to give you insight into your gifts and how you could use them to make a difference. To learn how God gives spiritual gifts, listen here:
