The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The attitude of unity is key to building the body of Christ in your home, the Christian church locally and worldwide. Unity is one of the most significant building blocks to bring the good news of Jesus to others. Disunity can be a considerable roadblock preventing individuals and churches from fulfilling God’s plans.

Jesus is our model for unity, and our adversary satan is our constant enemy doing whatever he can to cause disunity. In this cosmic battle, the Lord calls us to lay aside our selfishness and give ourselves to Christ and His mission. By our free will, we can choose to have the attitude of unity and ask the Lord to help us do what is best.

A church is often a collection of people from different backgrounds, diverse personalities, and life experiences. Yet amid all this diversity, Paul writes, “For you are all one in Christ Jesus.”[1] Paul shows that we find unity when we keep our eyes on Jesus and away from ourselves.

Working Together

The words Paul wrote to the Philippians are as meaningful today as when he wrote them. Philippians 2:1Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. [2]

When we belong to Christ, He guides us by His word and the Holy Spirit. As we collectively listen to the Lord, He guides us in what we must do and how to treat each other. As believers, we have experienced the love of Jesus, and as we love one another, we can work through any differences kindly, which creates unity.

Being Tender, Compassionate, and Uncomplaining

Are we are tender and compassionate toward others? We should be quick to help and have a heart for them, even if we disagree. When we work together in love, we can resolve issues that may divide others quickly. As we are concerned for others, the natural outcome is unity. There is something about interacting with others who let their light shine when they show concern.

Philippians 2:14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.[3] What is in the atmosphere makes a difference, and no one wants to be around critical people who argue and complain. When you can walk into a room with love and joy, it creates an environment that fosters unity and encouragement.
