Experiencing the supernatural is a fantastic experience that strengthens our faith and makes the Lord come alive. When I was a small child, I had a supernatural experience in worship. I still have vivid memories of it. I remember looking toward the lectern in the front of the church and seeing a white angel suspended in midair. You may not have such an experience, but if you are a person of faith, you have experienced the most incredible encounter with God when the Holy Spirit came to live inside you.
Peter Saw Jesus in His Glory
Peter, James, and John had an extraordinary encounter with Jesus, where He revealed His majesty. Matthew 17:2 As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light. [1] Peter knew that Jesus was the Messiah and wanted people to be confident in the good news of Jesus.
2 Peter 1:16 For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes 17 when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” 18 We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.[2]
Like Peter, a personal encounter with Jesus changes us as the Lord reveals Himself to us. An encounter with Jesus can be a verse or word that jumps out as you read the Bible. You may have read the passage many times, but God points out something new. I can’t tell you the number of times I read a devotion that seemed to be written just for what I was experiencing. When we look for the Lord to show up in our lives, God will often surprise us.
Signs, Miracles, and Wonders
All that the Apostles told how facts supported their personal experiences with Jesus. They didn’t exaggerate. The Apostles had witnessed the signs, miracles, and wonders of Jesus, including His resurrection. When Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John, it gave them a brief glimpse of Jesus’ true majesty. This experience assured them of Jesus’ commitment and the security of eternity.
Paul tells us in Romans 10:17 that faith comes by hearing. As we read God’s Word, something supernatural happens in our hearts as the Lord draws us to Himself. To grow in faith is supernatural because only the Lord can enable me to grow! Pray and ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you, and don’t be surprised when He does.
