The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God’s Word is a lamp to my feet. It is often the most evident in my life when I am the most desperate and need the Lord to guide me. Corrie ten Boom was imprisoned in a concentration camp during World War II and smuggled a Bible into the prison with her. She writes, “As for us, from morning until lights-out, whenever we were not in ranks for roll call, our Bible was the center of an ever-widening circle of help and hope. Like waifs clustered around a blazing fire, we gathered about it, holding out our hearts to its warmth and light. The blacker the night around us grew, the brighter, truer, and more beautiful the Word of God burned.” [1]

Even as believers, we often take the Lord’s Word for granted until life becomes difficult. God may remove the distractions of life for us to see the Bible as a treasure.

The Holy Spirit Moved the Prophets

In the days of Peter and today, some say God’s Word is not true and is merely a fairy tale. The enemy of our souls was just as active in Peter’s days as he is today. If the enemy can discount God’s Word, he can tear down people’s faith and hope in the Lord. This leaves them in despair. In his writing, Peter reiterates that the Holy Spirit inspired the Word of God given to the prophets, and their word is true.

2 Peter 1:19 Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, 21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. [2]

The Good News of Jesus

The Holy Spirit inspired God’s Word and is so powerful that it draws people to faith and transforms them. The Bible inspires, brings peace and hope, and lights the Lord’s path for us Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” [3]

No matter where you are, God’s Word is always there to bring God’s love, guidance, and direction in supernatural ways. The Bible is food for our souls no matter where we are in life and our struggles. Psalm 28:The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. [4]
