God’s timing is something that affects all of us. We are often impatient and want God to move quickly or answer our prayers as we desire. Like a sailor in the crow’s nest, the Lord sees the big picture and makes the best decisions even if we don’t understand.
Several years ago, we prayed for healing for a small child in our church, but the Lord chose to heal her in heaven instead. We don’t always understand what God is doing in His way and timing. God placed us on this earth at the right time to accomplish His will. We did not choose when to be born, to whom, or where, but God did. Nor did we develop a plan for our life, but God took care of this, also. God is working out His perfect plan in your life at the right time and place.
Jesus’s Life and Ministry Happened in God’s Timing
Perhaps you are waiting on the Lord’s timing today, and He is calling you to trust Him. Think of all the people in the Old Testament era who anticipated the coming of the Messiah. They hoped He would come in their lifetime. Yet, the Lord came just at the right time. Galatians 4:4-5. But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.[1]
The world was spiritually dark when Jesus came as the Light of the World. He is the light that shines in the darkness. During Jesus’ ministry, they wanted to kill Him multiple times, but it wasn’t the right time or place. John 7:30Then the leaders tried to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him because his time had not yet come. [2]
God’s Timing During Holy Week
During Holy week leading up to the crucifixion, Jesus taught the people in Jerusalem. During this time, the religious leaders asked Him by what authority He did these things as they worked to trap him. Luke 20:22 Now tell us—is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” 23 He saw through their trickery and said, 24 “Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. 25 “Well then,” he said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” 26 So they failed to trap him by what he said in front of the people.[3]
A few days later, it would be the right time. Mark 14:41 When he returned to them the third time, he said, “Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But no—the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. [4]
Jesus’s time to go on the cross, die for our sins, and rise on the third day was about to fulfill the Lord’s perfect timing. His death and resurrection would be the most critical time in human history. The Lord’s timing affects each of us tremendously. This allows His will to be done through our lives.
