Will God turn the tables on our enemies? Many have prayed for this through the years. Today’s world seems to be on the edge of falling under the satan’s spell, but will God intervene? Looking through the Bible, we see God intervening repeatedly for His people.
Pharoah’s army had Moses and the Israelites backed up against the Red Sea, ready to conquer God’s people. The Lord had instructions for Moses. Exodus 14:16Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground.”[1]
In Judges chapter six, the Lord raised up Gideon, who would drive out the Midianites who were oppressing the Israelites. King Hezekiah prayed that the Lord would deliver them from the Assyrians who threatened Jerusalem, and God did.
In the book of Revelation, the Lord tells us He will defeat satan. Revelations 20: 10 Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There, they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. [2]
God’s Enemies Seek to Destroy the Jews
During the days of King Xerxes, a man named Haman became a significant official. King Xerxes promoted Haman and commanded the king’s officials to bow to him. When Mordecai, a Jew, refused to bow to him, it angered him, so he began to plot to destroy Mordecai and the Jewish people. Haman then proposed using some of his wealth to give to the royal treasury to destroy the Jews, whom he only referred to as a certain race of people.
Esther 3:10 The king agreed, confirming his decision by removing his signet ring from his finger and giving it to Haman, son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews. 11 The king said, “The money and the people are both yours to do with as you see fit.” [3]
What Would God’s People Do?
The outlook for the Jews looked bleak, but something began to happen. As the book of Esther unfolds, the Jewish people began to pray and fast for God’s intervention. The Lord would use Queen Esther, also a Jew, to go before the King to rescue God’s people. Through divine justice, Haman would be put to death and not the Jews.
Although this was a great rescue, it was only a precursor of the cross of Jesus, where God rescues humanity. John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.[4] If you have never accepted Jesus to be your Savior, He is calling you now. He has paid the price for your rescue. All you need to do is accept His free gift.
