The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Why are people wicked? I’ve asked this repeatedly. Every person is born sinful. Yet some choose to come to faith and serve God, and others pursue a path away from God. Unfortunately, the farther you run from God, the more likely you are to self-destruct. Jesus gives insight into the human heart.

Mark 7:21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you. [1] Only God stands in the way of such depravity by calling people back to Himself through the power of the Holy Spirit.

God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. As a result, we can be called back to the Lord and receive forgiveness. Thankfully, God never tires of calling people back and pursuing them so they will not have to go to hell. The question is, will you turn to God when He calls you to return to Him or go your way to destruction? John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.[2]

The Lord Brings Justice to the Wicked

An evil Persian official deceived King Xerxes into signing a decree to kill the Jews because he was offended when Mordecai would not bow down to him. When Haman found out that Mordecai was Jewish, he wanted to kill him and all Jewish people. God intervened to stop the plot, and Haman instead was put to death. Now, King Xerxes allowed a new decree that would permit the Jews to defend themselves and kill their enemies.

Esther 9:So the Jews went ahead on the appointed day and struck down their enemies with the sword. They killed and annihilated their enemies and did as they pleased with those who hated them. In the fortress of Susa itself, the Jews killed 500 men. They also killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha—10 the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews. But they did not take any plunder. [3]

Let the Lord Transform You!

Coming to faith is a momentary event, but transformation is a lifetime process. No matter our past sins, we can be forgiven when we turn from our sins and turn to the Lord. When we ask for forgiveness, Jesus will wash away our sins.

Romans 12:2Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” [4] As God changes us, we come to a greater understanding of the Lord’s love for us, and we can live a new life that is a blessing to those around us.
