The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Life in Jesus is exciting and the opposite of what most people think. When Jesus was attending a wedding in Cana with His mother, she came to him indicating they had run out of wine. Mary knew what shame this would bring the couple, so she went to her Son Jesus with the problem.

The wine at the wedding had run dry before Jesus turned their drought into abundance. People’s lives become dry and directionless, sometimes hitting bottom before realizing they are on the wrong path. Without Jesus, our lives are empty, but when we invite Jesus into our lives, He fills us with His presence and blessings. Life becomes exciting.

Jesus’ Manifested Glory

Some people say Jesus’ miracles are imaginary legends pointing to spiritual truths. They don’t think they happened because there is no natural reason for them. I believe these miracles are times when heaven invades the earth with the transforming power of God’s love. These may seem like stories that couldn’t happen in real life, but they point to a heavenly reality.

Jesus had promised Nathanael that he would see great things. John 1: 50 Jesus asked him, “Do you believe this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” 51 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.[1]

Jesus showed Nathanael and the other disciples an exciting sign in the creative miracle of turning water into wine. The gospel writer John uses these signs or miracles as a series of signposts to show who Jesus is. The glory of God is manifesting or showing up in a way humans can detect with their senses. Just as the wine Jesus made was the best, so is our life when we let Him fill us to overflow with His presence.

Life in Jesus Changes Everything

The master of ceremonies was surprised when he tasted the wine Jesus made. John 2: 10 “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” [2] Until this point, the Jews had lived by the law of Moses with animal sacrifices that were a stopgap until Jesus would shed His blood for our sins. Now, we are saved by grace through faith.

Jesus fills our empty lives, which is symbolic of an empty jar that He filled with water and then turned into the finest wine. To go from empty to water to wine is the transformation Jesus brings into our lives. We no longer have to be caterpillars but can be transformed into beautiful butterflies. The most fulfilled life is a person who faithfully follows Jesus as He unfolds a beautiful mural of our life’s journey with Him. Will you let Jesus transform you?
