The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Why Jesus came is clear to us as we read God’s Word. Adam and Eve sinned when they disobeyed God’s instructions not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. In God’s divine mercy and grace, the Lord determined that He would rescue his fallen creation.

Paul gives us insight into the Lord’s plan even before Adam and Eve sinned. Ephesians 1:Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. [1] Galatians 5:5 God sent Jesus to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.[2]

Scripture shows a God of intervention who continually works to save, rescue, and lead people to faith. Yes, there will be people who refuse God’s gift of salvation, but that is because they have chosen to turn away from God, who is calling them to come to Him.

Jesus Came to Set Us Free

Being set free indicates that we need to be set free from something. As people, we are sinners and captive to sin, and only by placing our faith in Jesus are we set free. As Jesus began His ministry, He went to the local synagogue and read from the Scripture on the Sabbath. The scroll of Isaiah, the prophet, was given to Jesus to read.

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” [3]

God’s Word is so powerful that it breaks the chains of the enemy who holds people captive to sin. As believers, we are in a constant spiritual battle as the enemy tries to discourage and trap us, so we return to bondage.

Stay Connected to Jesus

John tells us that if we are to remain free, we must stay connected to Jesus. John 15:“Yes, I (Jesus) am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me, you can do nothing.[4] Jesus is concerned about our physical well-being but is more concerned about being set free spiritually. Mark 10:52 And Jesus said to Bartimaeus, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly, the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road. [5]

Today, you may be struggling, and the Lord has come to set you free. The road ahead may not be easy, but as we call out to the Lord, He will walk with us through our difficulties and transform our lives. The author of Hebrews tells us we can boldly to the Lord. Hebrews 4:16 So, let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There, we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. [6]
